Rachel Greene
Rachel Greene was born on February 16, 1987, to Mark Greene and Jennifer Greene-Simon. During her early teens, Rachel struggled with rebellious behavior involving drugs, alcohol, and smoking. A serious incident occurred when her half-sister, Ella, accidentally overdosed on ecstasy found in Rachel’s backpack, leading to her hospitalization. This event caused tension between her parents, resulting in Mark and Elizabeth’s separation until a recurrence of Mark’s brain tumor brought them back together.
In the storyline of On the Beach, Rachel and her father reconcile during a vacation to Hawaii before his passing. Later, in Midnight, Rachel moves to Chicago with her boyfriend, B.J., and asks Elizabeth to help with birth control. By this time, she no longer lives with her mother, Jennifer, instead sharing an apartment with a friend.
The series finale reveals that Rachel has worked to get her life on track, graduating from Duke University and gaining acceptance to multiple medical schools affiliated with County General. She returns to County General for a tour led by Chaz Pratt and expresses interest in pursuing a career in emergency medicine. The show concludes with Rachel assisting John Carter in treating an incoming patient, marking a significant step in her medical career.
