Keira Knightley
Keira Knightley is a British actress born on March 26, 1985, in London. Starting her career at a young age, she gained early experience through commercials and television films, thanks in part to her parents, actors Will Knightley and Sharman Macdonald. Knightley’s first notable film role was a small part in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), but her breakthrough came with the 2002 sports film Bend It Like Beckham, where she played a tomboy footballer.
Knightley rose to international prominence as Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series beginning in 2003. That same year, she appeared in the ensemble romantic comedy Love Actually, drawing attention for her emerging talent. Her portrayal of Elizabeth Bennet in Pride & Prejudice (2005) earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, marking her as a distinctive presence in period dramas. She continued this trend with performances in adaptations such as Atonement (2007), The Duchess (2008), and Anna Karenina (2012).
Aside from period pieces, Knightley has also taken roles in contemporary films, including Begin Again (2013), where she played an aspiring musician, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014), in which she portrayed a medical student. In recognition of her contributions to drama and charity, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2018.
